Shamwari was the original malaria-free game reserve in the Eastern Cape and remains at the forefront of conservation in the area. One of Shamwari's strengths is that it lies at the convergence of five ecosystems and this diversity supports the Big Five (elephant, lion, leopard, rhino, buffalo) as well as varied antelope and a rich birdlife. This beautiful 20,000ha malaria-free reserve is situated in the verdant bush along the Bushmans River, between Port Elizabeth and Grahamstown.
Shamwari Eagles Crag is an avant-garde masterpiece of thatch, stone and glass nestled in a secluded lush valley in the central part of Shamwari game reserve. Quite simply we would say that Shamwari Eagles Crag offers the most luxurious accommodation in Shamwari. It comprises nine luxurious, detached suites, each with private wooden deck, indoor and outdoor showers and private plunge pool. The suites at Shamwari Eagles Crag have a light and airy feel with contemporary colours and light wood furniture. Wall to wall glass doors on two sides allow you to open up the suite to the sights and sounds of the surrounding kloof (valley). Each of the 9 magnificent en suite rooms have been named after a different kind of eagle found in the reserve. These rooms have been built to maximize privacy in the most tranquil of settings.
Eagles Crag Lodge has various dining venue options to enjoy the exquisite cuisine served at Eagles Crag. There is the upper floor dining room, the expansive balconies with stunning views of the cliff, the lower deck and the outdoor boma under the stars around the fire.
