Banjaar Tola Tented camp, Kanha National Park

Taj Safaris’ third jungle safari lodge is situated along the banks of the Banjaar River, directly overlooking the heart of Kanha National Park. The luxurious, yet lightweight, ensuite tents have been designed in a contemporary style, with pressed bamboo wall panels, gorgeous bamboo floors and locally crafted furniture hewn from the timber of exotic Indian trees. The textiles have been designed in tones of delicate saffron and acid-washed green, with rich block-printed Madhya Pradesh cottons and silks. The atmosphere is light, ethereal and organic.

The lodge boasts two elegant camps of nine suites, each with its own intimate tented sitting area. The tented guest suites at Banjaar Tola are set along the banks of the Banjaar River, overlooking the core area of Kanha National Park, world renowned for its tiger viewing. Designed with a light footprint to protect the surrounding riverine environment, the 18 tented suites are set on raised platforms supported at only seven points on the ground. Wide glass doors open onto private decks overlooking the river, offering panoramic views of the wilderness beyond. Pressed bamboo floors and wall panels combine with fabrics in delicate tones of bleached saffron, forest green and earthy cinnamon to create a light and airy atmosphere. Raw timber furniture, canvas wardrobes, leather detailing and handcrafted furniture made from fallen trees and driftwood give a glamorous camping feel.

Bastar metal work, hand-printed cloth and intricate stone carvings scattered throughout the camp represent the work of scores of talented artisans. The comfortable guest sitting area is filled with the handicrafts of nearby Chattisgarh, from bastar bell metal structures to tribal metal work. The guest dining and sitting area also features a small interpretive library, crammed full of fascinating information on the region and its wildlife. Guests can browse peacefully in the well-stocked Safari Shop or idle away the hours by the lodge swimming pool. Delicious Indian fare is served on the spacious dining decks, with dramatic river views or in the heart of the sal forest.

Featuring the finest of local ingredients, combined in regional dishes inspired by the community in which it is situated, the food at Banjaar Tola is guaranteed to satisfy the most demanding palate. Taking its inspiration from the Chhattisgarh region, chefs at Banjaar Tola are constantly expanding their repertoire of traditional dishes.
