Bhutan is located in the eastern Himalayas, bordered to the north by China and to the south, east and west by India. The altitude varies from 180m in the narrow lowland region to over 7,300m in the Himalayan plateau in the north.

Famous as the last Sanghri la (literally translated as Utopian paradise) on earth, the tiny Bhutan Kingdom offers a lot to the tourists. From snow-capped mountain peaks to historical relics, large number of tourist attractions bedecks the marvellous landscape of Bhutan.

The land of the thunder dragon kingdom is a trekker’s paradise and an environmentalist’s dream. With 72 percent of the country under forest cover, Bhutan’s pristine ecology is home to rare and endangered flora and fauna.

There are three distinct climatic regions - the foothills are tropical and home to deer, tigers, leopards and the rare golden langur money as well as much tropical vegetation including many species of wild orchids; the inner Himalaya region is temperate with bears, boars and sambar and the area is rich in deciduous forests; and the High Himalaya region is very thinly populated, but the steep mountain slopes are the home of many species of animals including snow leopards and blue sheep.

Bhutan is a very good option as a summer destination as there are several tourist attractions to visit. The kingdom of Bhutan is divided into three major divisions, namely, Western Bhutan, Central Bhutan and Eastern Bhutan.

The main towns of Western Bhutan are Paro, Thimphu and Punakha, Wangdue Phodrang and Phobjika valleys. Western Bhutan is renowned the world over for its bewitching beauty comprising of pretty paddy farms, majestic mountains and the ravishing rivers flowing through the towns of Paro, Thimphu and Punakha. The western Bhutan also has unique architectural style of two-story houses, which have brightly painted window designs.

This spiritual land is the last bastion of the Vajrayana school of Mahayana Buddhism which provides the essence of a unique identity for the 750,000 people. Those fortunate enough to visit Bhutan describe it as a unique, deeply spiritual and mystical experience. This kingdom is an adventure like no other.
